What it does

Cameras that check work, not people.

The line is simple and we hold to it. A camera pointed at a person, a gate or a yard to see who is there is security: that is Be Watch, with the access control, monitoring and retention that security video needs. A camera pointed at a product, an asset or a piece of paper to see whether it is right is computer vision, and that is this page.

Computer vision is a model trained to answer one visual question thousands of times an hour without getting tired at three in the afternoon: is this label straight, is this weld complete, is this pallet full, what does this meter say. It answers with a confidence, and the design says what happens at each level. It is also the fastest way to get information off paper: a docket, a plan or a nameplate photographed on a phone becomes a record with the fields filled and the original attached.

Quality

Defects caught before the pallet is wrapped

A food processor or a joinery factory: a camera over the line flags the mislabelled pack, the misaligned print or the missing weld as it passes, and the item is pulled for a person to decide. The customer stops finding your defects.

Condition

Asset and stock condition from a phone

A hire company or a vehicle fleet: photos taken at hand-over and return are compared, damage is marked and measured, and the condition report is drafted for a person to confirm. Disputes are settled with pictures and timestamps rather than memory.

Reading

Forms, labels, meters and plans into systems

A utility, a council contractor or a builder: meter readings, delivery dockets, labels and marked-up plans are photographed and read into the right fields, with the image kept beside the record and a person checking anything uncertain.

How we build it

Vision systems built to the five rules of the architecture

  • Knowledge before models. The asset is your labelled image set: your products, your defects, your lighting. Your people mark what good and bad look like before any model is chosen.
  • Consequence needs a person. The camera flags; a person rejects. Anything that would stop a line, fail a batch or charge a customer for damage is confirmed by someone who can see the image.
  • Integrate, don’t replace. Results go into the quality system, the ERP or the job system you already use. Where your existing cameras are good enough, we use them.
  • Every action leaves a record. Every flagged image is kept with the confidence, the decision and who made it: the record a customer complaint or an audit actually needs.
  • No vendor is load-bearing. Models improve every year. Because the labelled images and the integration are yours, a better model is a retrain rather than a new project.

What people ask about Computer Vision

Is this surveillance?

No, and here is the line. Our cameras point at products, assets and paper and answer questions about the work. Cameras pointed at people, gates and yards are security, and that is Be Watch. If a request drifts across that line, we say so and hand it over.

What accuracy is realistic?

It depends on the question, the lighting and how consistent your product is, so we measure it on your images before promising anything. The design aims for a model that is confident on the easy cases and sends the rest to a person, and reports its accuracy monthly.

Can it run on our existing cameras?

Often, for reading and counting. For fine defect detection the camera, the lens and the lighting are usually the difference between a system that works and one that does not. We do not sell cameras; we specify them.

Where do the images go?

Where the design says. Many systems run on a small computer beside the line and send only results to the cloud. Where images leave the site, the design says which, for how long and where, and none are used to train anyone else’s model.
